Potential, Rarity and What Is Not Confirmed
Aniimo has a quality system layered on top of species and evolution. It is heavily discussed and partially documented, which is the worst combination — so this page separates the two.
What is documented
Potential grades and the Perfect rating
Caught Aniimo are appraised, and the appraisal produces a grade. The scale runs from a low grade up to Perfect. An Umbral variant is the confirmed guaranteed route to a Perfect rating: it guarantees Perfect Potential.
Innate vs Acquired Potential
Potential comes in two kinds:
- Innate Potential is fixed when you capture the creature. You cannot change it afterwards.
- Acquired Potential is raised afterwards, through training.
The practical consequence is the one that matters for decisions: a creature you catch with poor Innate Potential is a creature you cannot fully repair. That makes appraising before investing the correct order — see the mistakes page for why that is the most expensive lesson in the game.
The Sparkling Cube
The Sparkling Cube guarantees Perfect Potential on whatever it catches. Note what that means precisely: it controls the quality of the result, not your odds of landing the catch.
What is community-reported
The following are widely stated and consistent across community sources, but are not on the official material this wiki can verify:
- The number of steps on the potential ladder above the lowest grade.
- The exact effect of each individual trait or personality modifier, and which stat each one affects.
- The rates at which higher grades appear in the wild.
- The claim that certain catch methods bias the grade rather than only the catch chance.
Treat all of it as useful hearsay, not as a system specification.
What is not confirmed at all
There is a widely repeated claim about an inheritance system that moves training progress between creatures for a large gold cost. We have not found it in official material, and the specific gold figure circulating has no traceable source.
It may well exist. Publishing a number for it would still be wrong, so we do not. It is listed on the sources page among the withheld claims.
How to spend your resources given all this
The rules that hold regardless of which unconfirmed numbers turn out to be true:
- Appraise before you invest. Innate Potential is not repairable, so investing first is the order that cannot be undone.
- Spend rare cubes on creatures you intend to keep. A guaranteed-Perfect catch is a scarce resource, and the creature you put it on is the one you are stuck with.
- Do not chase a Perfect grade on a creature you will replace. The Perfect creature you replace is worth less than the ordinary creature you kept.
- Remember the Umbral trap. The guaranteed-Perfect variant loses its look if you evolve it or change its form.
