Catching: Anipods and Approach

Capturing in Aniimo has two halves: what you throw, and when you throw it. The second half is where most of the improvement is available.

The pod ladder

PodEffect
AniipodBaseline catch rate, your default throw
Aniipod ProUpgraded rate over the standard pod
Aniipod Mega×2 catch odds
Aniipod Hyper×2 odds, plus faster and longer throws
Aniipod Trace×2 odds, plus tracking on a target that turns mid-throw
Aniipod UltraHighest base rate of the standard ladder
Tumbler×2 normally, ×6 against a group drawn together by Nourishment
Sparkling CubeGuarantees Perfect Potential on whatever it catches
Legendary AnipodCrafted from exploration and story tokens, for one-time encounters

Two notes that are easy to get wrong:

  • The Ultra’s exact factor is not published. It is documented as the highest base rate of the standard ladder, which is a relative statement, not a number. We are not going to invent one.
  • The Sparkling Cube is not a rate upgrade. It guarantees the quality of what you catch, which is a completely different thing from improving your odds of catching it.

Failed throws are cheap

A failed catch returns the pod to your inventory. That changes the whole risk calculation: using an expensive pod is spending a throw, not the item. The resource you are actually protecting is the pod’s existence, not its consumption.

Which is why the real rule is not “save your good pods” but “do not throw good pods at common creatures”. Basic pods, Pros and Megas exist for those.

Approach is the other half

Break, approach and status all stack with the pod tier:

  1. Empty the Break meter first. A broken creature is far easier to catch — this is the biggest single lever you have.
  2. Come in from cover, unnoticed. Approach state is a real modifier, not flavour.
  3. Catch it asleep or otherwise incapacitated where you can arrange it.
  4. Then throw.

A clean setup with a basic pod regularly beats a rushed throw with an expensive one. If you are missing catches often, the problem is almost certainly the first three steps rather than the pod.

The Tumbler is a group tool

The Tumbler is not a single-target upgrade, and treating it as one wastes it. Its ×6 only applies against creatures drawn together. Gather a cluster with Nourishment first, then throw.

What is not published

The game has a documented catch-rate formula — base chance by zone and tier, HP and level scaling, status modifiers and a second check roll. This wiki has not transcribed it yet, so the catch calculator on the tools page returns a modifier, not a percentage. Promising you a percent would mean inventing a base rate.
